BET Awards Airs Sunday Evening Chris Rock Hosting, Performances, Tribute Lined Up

Chris Rock will make a first-time appearance as a host for the BET Awards. Premiering Sunday evening at 8 p.m. EST, there are a plethora of performances lined up to appeal to the millions tuning in. Fan favorites and powerhouse married couple, Beyonce and Jay Z will not be in attendance. While the two are reportedly dominating the nominations lists, they are on their On the Run tour and will not be able to attend the awards ceremony.

Alongside Beyonce and Jay Z, Drake is also leading the nominations list. Rock is thrilled to take the helm for the BET Awards. He has previously hosted the MTV Video Music Awards, the Academy Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. He will receive assistance from presenters Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union and Kerry Washington.

BET Awards Performances

Talent will be hitting the big stage for performances, including those from Pharrell, Trey Songz, Drake, John Legend, Lil Wayne, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Robin Thicke, Mary J. Blige, Iggy Azalea and more. Let’s hope Thicke doesn’t start pleading to Paula instead of singing.

The Amazing BET Tribute

Get your DVRs ready because the most epic part of the night will feature none other than the legendary Lionel Richie. He will be honored with a much deserved lifetime achievement award. He has collaborated with the biggest names in music such as Kenny Rogers with the number one hit, Lady.

Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Janet Jackson, Patti Labelle, and dozens more other individuals have worked with Richie.

Richie, while an electric artist is also a breast cancer activist. He has helped to raise awareness and more than $3 million dollars to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. He speaks fondly of his grandmother who was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 80s and was a survivor, until her death at 103-years-old.
