Apple iPhone 6 and iOS 8 Issues Plague Buyers

The iPhone newest generations just hit stores this past Friday and more than 10 million handsets have been sold. Are issues already plaguing buyers who have the phones in hand, especially with iOS 8? It appears that way. Buyers are hitting multiple websites to get an idea on help to resolve their issues. Reviewing the cases and speaking to some recent iPhone 6 Buyers, Viral Global News has compiled the brief guide listed below, regarding noted issues.

iPhone 6 Running Hot

There has been a myriad of concerns regarding how hot the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus is running. It appears this is connected to streaming music and movies, or accessing consecutive apps. Some customers have reported turning off automatic downloads from iTunes and the app store has reduced the heat some. With growing pains comes a stable timetable of response – meaning give it a few hours for everything to calibrate and see if it cools down.

If the heat continues into the next day, it may be worth a call over to Apple. As a last resort, move the phone into standby and it should immediately cool.

iPhone 6 Battery Drain

How long are you initially charging your new iPhone? If two hours and working on it, it can lead to a depleted battery and increasing heat. BGR states the iPhone 6 Plus seems to have longer staying power than the smaller iPhone 6. Some customers are reporting they are experiencing quickly draining battery life.

This is also being blamed on iOS 8, since iPhone 5 users are also chiming in with issues on the battery drain after the firmware update. Check out the app usage from your phone to determine which are hogs and close or delete them from the phone. Some customers have recommended to let the phone completely die, and recharge to correct the issue. Another user said they had to call Apple, and the company walked them through a system restore, which initially corrected the problem, but it shortly returned.

iOS 8 Issues

Customers across Twitter have shared issues with movie playbacks, iMessage issues and even a missing keyboard. Apple has not addressed these issues publicly, and has not advised if an update may be forthcoming to rectify the problems. Some customers have suggested to delete any unnecessary storage and turn off/on the phone. Another user suggested to delete music files off the phone, backup and do a Master Reset and it should work successfully. It can become a complicated mess downgrading to iOS 7, it is not suggested.

Outside of the smaller suggestions? Consumers are left to wait for Apple to roll out an update, as usual the first round always seems prepared to bring a basket of glitches. Prior to considering a master reset, sync your phone to iTunes and perform a backup of all content. If issues persist, visit a local Genius Bar or place a call to Apple.

Are you experiencing issues, or do you have solutions for buyers reporting the above? Apple has not yet responded or commented regarding the inquiry of the issues.

Had problems as soon as i plugged in new iphone 6 plus. Normally it acknowledges a new phone but no pop up saying anything. It synced music tho still calling it 4s. Had to rename it myself. Worst of all it deletes all music off phone but on itunes says i have no more space like it thinks i have double whats actually there. love the phone and been with apple since 2007 but these constant problems with iphone 6 plus or ios8 which i think they stem from aren’t worth it, especially when had to wait a month for the phone.
Tho losing me as a customer wont affect apple, i hope they listen before others do likewise. Sort it out!!

My iPhone 6 Mail App occasionally fails to send mail reporting that the password for user blah is not correct. There have been no changes to settings, and a Master Reset resolves the issue for a few days when it recurs. Any ideas?

Mine did the same. Receiving email was fine but sending times out with usual “wrong user/password message”
Apple just blamed the email host yet I have an iPad also running 8.0.2 which works perfectly!
Took it to the shop to demonstrate to their “specialist”. Standard response was that whatever the problem, it is not Apple even though they could see the issue before their very eyes. Unbelievable !
As a share holder of a once great company I am hopping mad.
I did not expect a resolution there and then I just wanted them to take me seriously and agree to promote the problem to the next level.

I’ve had my iphone 6 for 4 weeks. My problem is that it seems to pick up the signal from my AT&T Microcell very sporadically. For sure, if I leave the house and then come back I have to do a series of reboots (router, microcell and phone) until the phone finally acknowledges the microcell. I saw one suggestion to change the name of the microcell and I’ve done that too. No luck. My iphone 4S worked just fine with the same router/microcell set up so I’m reasonably sure that the only difference is iOS8 and iphone 6. Anyone else? Solutions?

I found that I had this issue because I turn my LTE data off at home so I only use wifi, but picture messages apparently cannot be sent via wifi (have not tested if other iOS users are exceptions to this rule yet) if that is the issue then you just have to enable data and then pick and choose the services you want to have access to use data.

got 2 iphone 6s in austalia thru telstra this past monday the 29th. non-stop pain in the a**e all week. phone worked fine on 8.0. then i updated to 8.0.1, and most apps subsequently couldn’t get a network connection (work fine on wifi tho). heard 8.0.2 fixed this, updated, same problem. nearly 10 separate calls with telstra support and a) they appeared mystified by the issues & behavior and had no idea how to resolve except to get me to reset network settings – every damn time. nothing doing.

today, finally spoke w/ ‘specialist’ at apple, who had me try a few things and then gave up, advising factory reset. since then i’ve tried rolling back to 8.0 (nope), and then factory reset, but unfortunately i’ve followed that immediately w/ a restore from a backup of the 8.0 mark II and that seems to have cancelled any benefit of the factory reset. so waiting for restore to finish and then i’m going to do the reset again just to see if that solves the app-network issue, and if it does i’ll need to decide whether i want to go through setting up mail, calendar and contacts AGAIN.

a joke. and 1st- and second-level support at both telstra and apple were generally clueless – had to go into telstra shop in downtown melbourne before i could find a person who revealed that this is a known issue …

No, that is not the issue. Many people have been reporting the landscape problem and I too have it. The landscape lock button is off and even toggling it does not repair the issue. Only a reboot of the phone will resolve the problem.

I found this site because my i6 is running hot from using Pandora. In fact, it just crashed. I came to Apple because the Android phones have grown to large for my taste but honestly I’m starting to wonder if it was a mistake. My Nexus 7 runs like a dream and I would have purchased the Nexus 6 if they would have kept it closer to 5 inches.

Since iOS 8 update on my iPad, I cannot type as fast as I used to without Safari locking up and losing everything I type. I even gave up typing this comment directly and instead went to a notes program, typed it and copied it over to Safari (even in notes still had to go incredibly slowly but at least doesn’t freeze and lose just takes a while to catch up or freezes and releases in a moment so you can continue typing).

I am getting incredibly frustrated. And angry at myself for forgetting to type-elsewhere-copy and instead directly typing long responses into Safari —

I’m so frustrated I’m ready to ditch iPad and get a different tablet.

Anyone know if Apple is going to be issuing a fix or have a link to good directions to backing out the iOS 8 updates?

I got a 6+ had it a week and had the screen go black and locked me out while rotating it between portrait and landscape 3x so far. It happened whilst in the built in message app, chrome app, and the weather channel app. Any body else seen this or have had this happen to your iPhone 5, 5s, 6 or 6+ with the newer iOS 8 installed on there iPhone? It is very intermittent and once the phone goes black it locks you out of your phone and goes to the lock screen. After each time it has done it, I was able to unlock my phone and open the app back up. It has been annoying when it has happened.

You accidentally touched the lock/sleep button on the side of the phone while rotating it. I do it all the time on my 4s and my iPad. You just have to be mindful of wher that button is and how sensitive it is. They changed the location on the 6, & 6+, so your just not used to avoiding it yet.

My iPhone 6 does not rotate quickly from landscape/portrait modes. Oftentimes it does not rotate at all on apps that normally allow the rotation. It just gets stuck in landscape mode. My fix is to either close the app or go to Portrait Lock and then Lock and Unlock it. So lame.

    —-AND—–

My iPhone 6 does not allow me to take photos from the Messages app where it says “Take Photo or Video.” Once I click it, the camera displays but everything is black and no photo/video can be taken. Thus, I have never been able to take a photo directly from my Messages ever. I have to exit out, take a pic in Camera, then add it to my text message. :(((

My new iPhone 6 won’t sync or back up – either to itunes or my computer. I still had my old iphone 4s so have been using that. But stupidly tried to sync that today (with my now updated itunes 11.4) and now that phone won’t back up or sync either. Turns out it wasn’t anything wrong with the iphone 6 or with ios 8 (my 4s is still on ios 7), but with itunes 11.4. I tried doing a factory restore on it but all of my previously working icloud backups are now corrupted. I now have 2 useless phones which won’t sync with anything or back up. Sync button is greyed out. I have spent a total of 2 whole days on the phone to Apple and I have now been told engineering know about the itunes 11.4 bug and are working on a fix. Too late for both my phones tho as I no longer have an uncorrupted back up to restore from. 🙁

I have an IPhone 4 (can’t download 8.O but that’s ok) and a MAC …both work great and never have problems. Ever. After doing research, I will wait until next year to step up to the 6 or 6+, hands down. :-))))

I had a few of the above issues… This is what solved it for me:
    1) phone asking for an unknow Apple ID password. This can happen to ANY phone or iOS device since iOS 5. Somehow another users app gets put In your download Q. Just skip entering the Pw… Go to the App Store and wipe all pending downloads…. Erase the phone and restore you’re backup. Issue solved this is also caused by installing an app, music , etc that’s not of your ID. This is a VERY easy issue to fix. Unfortunately, many Apple techs don’t know that’s it’s annoyingly simple to fix.

    2) the iPhone 6 signal bars. You get the same signal. Apple changed the bars again to better represent the true signal. The 4-5s usually report the signal better than it really is. Best fix if you have the cash: get a microcell 200-300$ for most major cell companies. Min Internet speed of 10×1 Mbps. Can handle 15 devices and up to 4 simultaneous phone calls. Can hand off from microcell to a tower but not the other way. It’s range is about that of a 2.4GHz Wifi.

    3) the reversed text is a bug with the new hexacore (6 core gpu). Apple with need to patch ios 8. If it’s a HW issue…good god. A recall would be a disaster. Chances are it’s software though.

    4) I had some above issues. So I rewiped my 6+, fresh ios 8 install, then restored my ENCRYPTED iTunes backup

People don’t realize there are 3 ways to back up an iOS device:

    1) iCloud: documents, app data, most iOS 8 settings…but some settings lost. Mostly passwords.. Keychain etc. ……

    2) iTunes non encrypted: same as above but syncs all apps, media etc to local PC

    3) encrypted/ password iTunes back up: this is the BEST WAY. I encourage everyone to still use iCloud backup, but do an iTunes encrypted back up over use or wifi. Why? It backs up EVERYTHING. ALL settings, passwords, key chains…EVERYTHING. You don’t have to do anything after an encrypted restore. Unless it’s a new iOS and you must set new settungs.

So , wipe, reinstall iOS from iTunes, load backup of 5s IOS 8 into 6+ iOS 8. Any attempts to go from 5s/ios7 resulted in tons of issues. But upgrading to iOS 8 THEN migrating devices… I now have NONE of the issues above

The issue I have had is the phone not making calls. There have been three instances where I have tried to make a phone call and when I touch a contacts name nothing happens. I have tried dialing it on the keypad and still nothing. After about an hour the problem rectifies itself.
This phone can do all sorts of fun things, but if it can’t make a phone call then the rest doesn’t mean anything.

      Kathryn,

Identical problem happening to me. Haven’t been able to identify a failure signature yet. Only thing I’ve found is that if I reset the phone then I can call again. Never tried simply waiting. Maybe I will do that next time. Everything worked fine for about 2 weeks but last 3-4 days the phone has become quite buggy. I might also try toggling some settings next time to see if those can get the phone making calls again.

Yes, I’ve had numerous issues. Where do I start?

Pre-ordered iPhone6 and had it delivered for pickup at an Apple Store. Two days prior, I upgraded my iPhone5S to iOS8 without any issues.

On the 19th (launch day), the setup of my iPhone6 had multiple issues. First, the phone kept asking for someone else’s Apple ID. The geniuses kept telling me that I had connected my previous iPhone5S to someone’s Mac computer or I had let someone use their Apple ID to download a game, app, etc.etc. to my phone. Neither was the case, I assure you. However, my iPhone5s which was also restored using the same backup did not ask for the other user’s Apple ID.

As we tried to trouble shoot the other user’s Apple ID issue, the new iPhone6 kept disconnecting from the wifi. In fact, after a while, we couldn’t control the wifi with the wifi button in the settings menu. It was “stuck.” The geniuses decided to replace my new iPhone6. Luckily they had an extra.

Now, with iPhone6 #2, the phone kept asking for another user’s Apple ID. We were able to restore the phone to a backup two months ago and the problem solved itself. However, I lost a lot of data (texts, photos, etc.etc.) between the two backups.

After having the phone a couple of days, I’ve noticed several annoying issues.

First, it crashes or hangs a lot. I’ve done multiple hard resets now to get the phone working from a crash. I’m not sure if it’s an incompatible app or what. However, it’s really annoying.

Second, the new Safari sucks. Really really sucks. Even the new version on the desktops. On the phone, you can’t upload pictures to Facebook or Craigslist. Many of my regular websites that I would go to are not working properly. More so, it hangs.

Third. When sending a picture with text, I’ve noticed two annoying issues. Here’s the setup. Go to photos, find a picture you like, hit the send icon on the lower left, select message. When the new message box opens, first, the cursor will be to the LEFT of the To: field. But when you start typing recipients, all is well; it pops to the right of the To: field. But there’s more. When you select the text box to type, the cursor drops down to the right of the picture. All is well until you type. As you type, the letters of the word you type are reversed. So let’s say you were going to type the word “its”. The screen displays “tsi.” I can repeat these issues over and over. The only way to get the words from not repeating is to get the cursor UNDER the picture, not the right before you start typing.

Also, the wifi on the iPhone6 seems weak or has trouble seeing many different wifis. For example, I am in a hotel room tonight. My Mac Book Pro sees 8 different hotel wifi signals, nearly all of them with full strength. But my iPhone6 only sees one and it isn’t connecting or working properly.

Finally, iTunes issue. My phone with not sync properly nor will it sync all of my music. I have over 64Gigs of music, which is why I bought the 128Gb phone. However, I have yet to have a sync copy all of my music from my MBP to my iPhone6. VERY annoying.

If I find other glitches, I’ll let you know.

I am going to do a complete factory reset and start from scratch. Things just seem to be too buggy.

When I sync my IPhone 4s music and notes to my new IPhone 6 with 128gig, it is only syncing songs I purchased thru I tunes. I am missing over 2000 songs. Very frustrating.

Yep got my iphone 6 Friday on launch day. Apple iPhone 6 and iOS 8 Issue’s Plague me too, but battery life has been fine. Apple had me do a complete restore on my brand new phone to factory settings this morning since it had several issues in such short amount of time..it seems fine now but it’s only been 7 hours since.
