Fallout Shelter Coming to Android ‘In A Few Months,’ States Bethesda

Fallout Shelter is soon to be released for Android users, according to an official statement made by Bethesda Game Studios. While an exact release date is yet to be confirmed, Maryland-based publisher Bethesda Softworks revealed it would be ready for digital download “in a few months.”

The free-to-play game was recently announced during Bethesda’s E3 conference. Kicking off the high-profile gaming expo in style, Bethesda revealed a slew of hotly anticipated titles, from Fallout 4 to id Software’s demon-pulping Doom.

In terms of minimum specs, the mobile game requires at least an iPhone 5, iPad 3, or iPad mini 2. According to Apple, the game is compatible with iOS 7.0 or later, and is optimized for the iPhone 6 series and iPad Air 2. The game weighs in at around 200MB, and is only available in English.

Gamers are entrusted with the role of vault overseer, and must construct and organize one of Vault-Tec’s state-of-the-art vaults. Every aspect of vault life must be managed, from ensuring its occupants are assigned the correct occupations and responsibilities to equipping them with outfits and weapons.

“Create a brighter future…underground! Select from a variety of modern-day rooms to turn an excavation beneath 2,000 feet of bedrock into the very picture of Vault Life,” states the Fallout Shelter description.

The game also encourages players to send vault-goers out into the wastelands to explore, find new equipment, earn Caps, and gain invaluable experience. While explorers must be protected from the dangers of the post-apocalyptic wasteland, the shelter also possesses its own perils.

Thus far, the app seems to be going down a storm on the iTunes store page, with the game having earned a four star rating. After soaring to the top three grossing apps on Apple’s app store, dethroning King.com’s Candy Crush Saga. From June 15 to June 18, it was the most downloaded game in Australia, Canada, the U.S., and the U.K.

At the time, Bethesda’s Pete Hines reassured fans that there would be “no paywall timers” and no Internet requirement to play. While gamers can buy lunch boxes that contain loot, these are easy to pick up, in-game, and are entirely optional purchases.

On June 16, Bethesda reps took to the company’s Twitter page to announce they were working on the Android version of Fallout Shelter.
