Soccer star David Beckham was picking up his teen son, Brooklyn, from from a soccer match when his vehicle crashed into another outside of the Arsenal training facility in London. Due to the airbags being deployed, Beckham and his son were able to walk away from the accident shaken but not injured, reportedly Beckham may have hurt his shoulder, but that has not been confirmed. The other driver was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. Witnesses on the scene said the vehicles collided at a high speed.
Officials have not confirmed who may have been possibly at fault for the accident, just advising an Audi RS6 collided with a Mitsubishi Colt. Beckham was the driver of the Audi.
The Beckham boys were able to walk away, but not the same could be said for the Audi, which was considerably damaged with the driver’s side door receiving much of the impact. On Saturday shortly before 1:30 p.m., police were called to the scene to address the collision. Brooklyn recently signed a short term contract with the Arsenal under 16 soccer team this month. The Telegraph spoke to two of Brooklyn’s teammates who reported seeing the accident, but also felt star struck when they saw Beckham was the driver of one vehicle.
Beckham who made a name for himself in America and London has become a driver for his kids, his three boys play for the Arsenal’s underage leagues. He has discussed missing the sport, but the sport and its numbers have certainly missed him more.
The Football Association has been brainstorming on ways to bring interest back to the game, ever since Beckham retired nearly two years ago. There was speculation to assist in the brainstorming that bringing the original attraction into the offices could help. While rumors of Beckham joining the FA has been consistent, so has his work on building a Major League Soccer franchise in Florida.
Beckham made a great player and would make a fantastic ambassador, but considering his luck behind the wheel, he suffered a previous accident in Beverly Hills, it seems he is not as sharp when driving. Luckily, he and his son are safe and reportedly no significant injuries were reported from the other driver and passenger. Stay safe!
