It is Christmas season once again. Once the frenzy of the holiday shopping season is done, the presents are wrapped and nestled safely under the tree, and relatives are arriving left and right promising to provide a few headaches, (remember to hit the liquor store), it is time to turn on some Christmas movies and get into the holiday spirit. Because really, who does not love snuggling up on the couch with some hot cocoa or egg nog, and turning on a legendary Christmas flick? The answer, unless talking to the Grinch himself, is no one. So check out our list of the top five best Christmas movies and make sure to watch them all!

5. It’s a Wonderful Life

This classic came out in 1947, and even though it is an old one, it is still a good one. It is definitely a film that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, and one that can still be enjoyed by kids today, even with the love of animation and technology that has been thrown upon recent generations. In this beautiful story an angel helps out a despondent man by showing him what life would have been like if he never existed.

1947 must have been a good year for hit movies because Miracle on 34th Street is another classic Christmas movie that hit the big screen in 1947 and one that is still being enjoyed today by people of all ages. Coming in at number 9 on Forbes list of top Christmas movies, this is a heartfelt story where a young lawyer defends a man who has claimed to be Santa Claus, and was promptly institutionalized, thought to be insane. The young lawyer believes the sweet old man and tries to prove that he is in fact, Santa Claus.

3. Home Alone

In 1990 this movie became a hit sensation, and it cannot be missed during the holiday season—literally as it plays at least five million times over the course of the holiday. Another movie that can be enjoyed by all, the story focuses on a young boy who was left home alone by accident while his family headed to Paris for vacation. It will have viewers laughing from beginning to end, and maybe even throwing in a lesson on love and family.

Number two on the list is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. It is fair to say that Christmas cannot be complete without watching this movie at least once. Becoming a hit in 1989, the story follows a goofy family man who endures one ridiculously funny mishap after the next while having a house filled to capacity with family members.

A Christmas Story, a classic since that made its debut in 1989, if often debated as the best Christmas movie all time and number one on this list as well. This is another movie that literally cannot be missed as it plays for 24 hours starting on Christmas Eve. This movie stars a little boy named Ralphie who has to convince his parents that he absolutely cannot live without a Red Ryder BB gun. He goes through a lot, but viewers will have to wait and see if Ralphie’s parents, or Santa, actually brings him the gift of his dreams.
