Rey Mysterio Jr. Aims Fatal Flying Kick at Mexican Wrestling Star Hijo del Perro Aguayo

Friday night during a traditional wrestling match in Tijuana, Mexico, two well-known stars battled in the ring. The son of legendary wrestler, Pedro “Perro” Aguayo, Pedro Aguayo Ramirez, wrestler name Hijo del Perro Aguayo, faced off against former mainstream wrestler, Oscar Gutierrez, known as Rey Mysterio Jr. Thousands were attendance in the stadium to gather and watch the entertainment show. Soon, the clapping and cheering would end as one of the wrestlers faced the end of his life.

In a tag-team match, four wrestlers including Ramirez and Gutierrez exploded on one another with a flurry of fists and kicks. In typical fashion, the stars were seen executing dramatic punches and sluggishly walking around the ring.

In a disturbing YouTube video, uploaded by Ernesto Vazquez, Ramirez could be seen taking a kick from another wrestler,

as he stood on the mat. He was tossed out of the ring shortly after, before crawling back onto the mat. At this time, the moves continued in the lucha libre fashion Mexican wrestlers are known for. As Ramirez enters the ring, Gutierrez aims a flying kick at his opponent. The seemingly standard move sent Ramirez in between the ropes where he hung, in a way that is familiar to wrestlers.

As the other three wrestlers continued, Ramirez did not move, his body disturbingly lackluster as the wrestlers caused the ring to move. The aerobatics continued, as one of the wrestlers seemed to look over at Ramirez, as he too hung from the ropes.

The masked wrestler analyzing Ramirez seems to stand to address the concern, but the wrestlers continue to engage in wrestling. Finally, officials rush to the scene, where Ramirez is shaken, as seen on the video. More officials are called to the ring, as the other three wrestlers continue to wrestle. The announcers do not make any mention of Ramirez’s prone form as the match continues and a winner announced.

For several minutes, officials surround the down wrestler, before rushing him from the ring and arena, causing speculation why it took them so long to respond. The fans could be heard chanting Ramirez’s name.

At 1:30 a.m., Ramirez was pronounced dead. His cause of death, per the autopsy was from trauma to his neck, and a cervical fracture. Law enforcement officials may open a full investigation and look into the possibility of pursuing a manslaughter case. For the last 20 years Ramirez graced the ring, entertaining fans in his home country. His death rocked Mexico and fellow wrestlers.

Gutierrez released a statement via social media calling the death a complete shock and said Ramirez was like a “brother” to him. The AAA wrestling federation also took to Twitter to send their condolences to the family of the deceased wrestler.
