With rumors of a spinoff circulating the web, which was actually addressed and shot down at E!, ABC has confirmed that Revenge has been killed off after four seasons. Fans of both Emily VanCamp and Madeline Stowe will no doubt be crushed at this news. There are few actresses on television that can provide so much in terms of eye candy combined with real talent in the acting department.
Stowe’s character Victoria Grayson was only recently killed off and the actress confirmed that if Revenge was brought back for another season that she would not be returning. It seems fitting somehow that the show which killed off Stowe, who really looks no different from her 2002 role in We Were Soldiers, is now itself deceased.
VanCamp, whose portrayal of Agent 13 in Captain America: The Winter Soldier caused nerd fan-boys, and girls, to salivate uncontrollably, will not be too perturbed at the news. After all, the 28 year-old actress is still firmly in her ingenue days, unlike Stowe, and will find future employment on either the big screen, or small, no real problem.
The big losers will be the loyal fanbase of the show. Now that ABC has confirmed that the popular show is no more, fans have been described as feeling “hopeless.” They may feel a certain kinship to all those Longmire fans who were not just hopeless, but furious when their favorite show was cancelled at the height of the series’ popularity.
Revenge producer Sallie Patrick is not resting on any laurels as her name is attached to a new show Kingmakers. It was this news that apparently started the rumor about a spinoff. Presumably, Revenge never quite picked up viewers lost when the series was moved from its first season Wednesday night slot to Sunday.
Show runner Sunil Nayar has said the the show’s producers were “confident” that the season finale would please all concerned. Neither VanCamp nor Stowe have any upcoming projects listed on IMDB. Kingmakers which is a TV movie stars Adrian Pasdar and Kristin Bauer van Straten with no mention of Stowe or VanCamp in the cast.
