NY Mets Former Player Darryl Hamilton Killed in Alleged Murder-Suicide

Darryl Hamilton spent 13 years in Major League Baseball (MLB). He had a successful run with the Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers and completed his career with the New York Mets. He was known as a man with a “contagious” smile, and bringing his talents to the game and his best to the team. The father of three just attended a recent Astros game in the last two weeks, where he posted a selfie with two of his sons.

Shock waves reverberated when it was discovered the loving father and all-around good player was gunned down Sunday afternoon.

Monica Jordan, 44, reportedly, was Hamilton’s girlfriend and she also had a history of domestic violence. In a previous 2008 case she was charged with felony arson for burning down the home of her now ex-husband. The situation shines a light on a situation not frequently publicized, the female as the aggressor. Jordan and Hamilton were in a home located in Pearland, Texas. Police were called following a disturbance call to the property.

Once they arrived, they found Hamilton’s body near the main entrance. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Pearland Police Lt. Patrick Savage said Jordan’s body was also found in the home. It is believed the home belonged to Jordan.

It appears through an initial investigation the two entered into an altercation. Jordan shot Hamilton several times before turning the gun on herself. Police advised they located the couple’s 14-month-old child in the home, unharmed. The child was immediately turned over to Child Protective Services, until officials can locate relatives.

The Louisiana-born player officially retired in 2001 after the Mets reached the World Series in 2000. The teams who experienced Hamilton’s kindness shared their sadness and shock at the tragic and violent end to the player’s life.

The New York Mets will hold a moment of silence before their next game in honor of Hamilton.

Following his retirement, Hamilton worked for MLB’s operational offices and MLB Advanced Media. Commissioner Rob Manfred released a statement, “All of us at Major League Baseball are shocked and saddened by this tragedy. He was a talented and personable individual, and we were proud to call him a member of the baseball family. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest sympathies to Darryl’s family and his many friends throughout our game.”

Hamilton’s ex-wife tweeted a loving remembrance of her children’s father.
