Samsung Galaxy S5 S6 and S6 Edge Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update Fixes Bugs

The Samsung Galaxy Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update has been rolled out for a number of Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Released for U.S. customers, details of the Android Lollipop software update were revealed last week, after tech website SamMobile claimed the fix was in the development stages.

Google first confirmed the Android 5.1.1 update for its range of Nexus smartphones and tablet devices, back in April. The patch was designed to resolve a number of outstanding issues from versions 5.1 and 5.0.2.

Now, the patch has extended to some of Samsung’s other devices, including Samsung Galaxy devices, but is rumored to extend to the Galaxy Note 4 in July. According to a tweet from Samsung France, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is set to receive the 5.1.1 OTA update, “imminently.”

T-Mobile users were recently given the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, mere months after the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge hit store shelves. The other major American carriers - including AT&T, Sprint and Verizon - have yet to roll out the patch, however. The same goes for the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update, and, much to everyone’s surprise, was initially exclusive to T-Mobile customers. Shortly after, however, the OS update was released for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge devices on US Cellular’s wireless network, appearing as baseband versions G920R4TYU2BOF7 and G925R4TYU2BOF7, respectively.

The firmware update has, of course, come with a few teething problems, seen among both Nexus and Galaxy device owners. Thus far, Galaxy S5, S6 and S6 Edge users have complained about problems with notification sounds intermittently playing, screen widgets moving of their own accord, battery problems, Feature Edge bugs, lag and infinite reboots.

We await any official announcement from T-Mobile or Samsung on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. As of writing, no changelog exists for the update, so it’s difficult to know precisely what the update does. However, it’s thought the patch fixes a number of known bugs, while delivering a range of performance enhancements.
