Missing Texas Grandmother Wanda Mobley Found Alive by Relatives

Last Friday, Wanda Mobley left her home in Brownwood, Texas, to drive to relatives in McAlester, Oklahoma for a family reunion. When the family could not reach the 75-year-old grandmother, they became concerned and when she did not reach her destination, they contacted officials to file a missing persons report. The family hit social media sharing pictures of their grandmother, urging everyone to keep an eye open and reach out if they saw a Chevy Sedan owned by Mobley.

As Mobley’s relatives set off a frantic search, she was trying to stay alive and remain positive. Mobley told WFAA she was headed to the reunion Friday morning, but an animal ran before her car on Highway 183. She swerved and drove off an embankment near the highway, down into a ravine.

There, Mobley would would try to kick out a window and escape without success. For two days, the grandmother kept her wits about her and nourished on Sprite she had in the car. She also used one of her shirts to capture water.

During this time, Mobley was suffering from bruises and a lower fractured back.

Mobley’s family worked with authorities to trace the last location of her cell phone. It would be the “ping” that led relatives to the ravine. There, Mobley heard her grandson’s voice calling her name, and she was able to respond. Emergency services were called and Mobley was airlifted to a Wichita Falls hospital where is expected to make a full recovery.
