The gruesome series 19 Kids and Counting has finally been cancelled by the TLC network after it was revealed that one of the stars of the show is an admitted child molester. The show features the Duggar family, a group of cultists who believe that women should have as many children as possible. They are part of a depraved group called the Quiverfull movement; a gaggle of insane Christian fundamentalists who begin brainwashing their children at an early age to believe that women’s sole purpose is to keep squeezing out babies and to submit to the wishes of men.
Lately, questions have been raised about the true purpose of the Quiverfull movement with regard to its treatment of children. The news broke that Josh Duggar, one of the adults who starred on the show, had molested girls as young as five years old, including two of his sisters, when he was 15. Josh soon admitted that the allegations against him were true, but instead of condemning his actions, many fellow fundamentalist Christians in his community and his family members came out in support of child molestation, saying that molesting children is “not rape or anything like that.”
Mike Huckabee also came to Josh’s defense, suggesting that Josh was a good person who made a small mistake. Huckabee then blamed the media, stating “No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story.” Huckabee also wrote that Josh and the entire Duggar family have his full support.
The creepiest statement, though, came from Duggar patriarch Jim Bob Duggar. He said that child molestation is common among many Christian families. “It was a very difficult situation. But as we talked to other parents and different ones since then, a lot of families have said that they have had similar things that happened in their families.”
This statement led many to wonder if the Quiverfull movement is actually just a cult that promotes and encourages child molestation via the unnatural suppression of normal sexual development. The cult leaders preach complete abstinence until marriage, and girls’ sexuality is heavily controlled by their fathers. In fact, in some Christian fundamentalist communities, girls have ceremonies in which they “marry” their fathers and pledge their virginity to them until marriage. This removal of normal, healthy development of sexual maturity contributes to the twisted activities that, as Jim Bob states, are so common among others in the Quiverfull community.
Thankfully, the sickening series 19 Kids and Counting has finally been cancelled. Now that this filth is off the air, we can all hope that the Duggars fade into the obscurity they so richly deserve, and that law enforcement takes a closer look at the activities within the fundamentalist cult to which the Duggars belong.
