
UPDATE 2: 7:30 A.M. 8/30/15 - Police have identified the man who fell from the upper deck during Saturday night’s game in Turner Field. Gregory Murrey, 60, from Alpharetta died following the fall. We have heard from many fans this morning - some said the man fell head first, and hit metal wires on his way down. Reportedly, Murrey tried grabbing onto them to stop his fall. Murrey hit the concrete, near a surgeon who was in attendance to watch the game. The surgeon immediately tended to the man, applying CPR, to no avail. Police are investigating the fall to determine if Murrey stumbled and fell, or if someone pushed him. UPDATE 11:10 P.M. - We have received confirmed information - the fan who fell from the upper deck at Turner Field Saturday night has died. Police said the man was rushed to the Grady Memorial Hospital and could not be resuscitated. While his name is not released at this time, due to notification of loved ones, sources say he was a man in his 60s.
[ORIGINAL]: It has been a tragic season in baseball. The dangers of the game are highlighted regarding flying bats and falls. Another incident occurred during a game at Turner Field Saturday night. During the seventh inning of the Braves-Yankees matchup, a fan who was reportedly yelling down to A-Rod stumbled, and lost his balance. The fan fell more than 50 feet from the upper deck, striking a metal railing on his way down to the concrete.
Medical personnel immediately rush to the scene near section 401 to attend to the man. He was placed on a backboard and rushed from the stadium. Frightened fans shared the medical team worked on the fallen man for 10 minutes, as they applied life-saving CPR.
The incident was reported by the Atlanta Braves on their Twitter page around 9:45 p.m. EST. An usher told ESPN the man was familiar to him as a Braves season-ticket holder. With one of the largest crowds in attendance (49,243 people), security worked quickly to disperse a crowd from the area.
There has been no medical updates on the man at the time of this report. Viral Global News did received a message from a fan in attendance who said they saw blood on the pavement where the man landed, and worried the man was not conscious upon leaving the stadium. We will update this story as information becomes available.
