On Friday, an Army Apache helicopter departed from Fort Drum in northern New York, and headed to the weekend airshow being held at the Stewart International Airport. During the travel time, a 100 pound dummy missile fell from the chopper and landed somewhere in upstate New York. Since it is a dummy missile, it will not be motorized or explosive. The missile is marked with “U.S. Army” and is about 64-inches long.
Officials for the military branch are turning to the public for assistance in locating the missing missile. The missile fell from the Apache some time between 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
For anyone looking to blame the pilot, spare the blame game or finger pointing. The missile cannot be deployed by the pilot, it is attached to the chopper for the pilot to experience the weight during training, relayed Fort Drum’s spokeswoman, Julie Halpin. If anyone has information on the missile, or its possible whereabouts, military officials ask you to contact the 10th Mountain Division Operations Center: 315-772-6324.

It is strongly suggested not to turning to Craigslist or eBay with this specific find. Call the number above for further instructions on returning the missile back to the military.
