Kim Zolciak Shares Stroke Scare and Hospital Selfie

Reality show starlet and DWTS contestant, Kim Zolciak, was flying home Wednesday following her appearance on the show. Once she arrived to her residence, she noticed something was awry; she was experiencing difficulty when she tried to speak, then the left side of her body became numb. Luckily, her husband and daughter rushed Zolciak to the hospital for admittance. Once there, she was told she suffered a transient ischemic attack (TIA) which is also called a “mini-stroke.”

TIA is caused typically by a temporary clot, and while it has no expected long-lasting damages, it can become serious if not treated. Medical experts have called TIA a precursor to a future serious or even debilitating stroke if not treated swiftly. TIA may be treated with antiplatelet agents, additional drug therapy, or even surgery, based on the severity.

More times than not, TIA will expose an underlying condition. Per the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, TIA may be linked to high blood pressure, smokers, diabetes or heavy use of alcohol.

For Zolciak, she was just happy to share a hospital selfie, and assure her fans she was doing just fine. The reality star has been under a lot of scrutiny by the DWTS judges, and facing harsh criticism. On Monday night’s broadcast she broke down on the show saying she still has “a heart.” Hopefully, Zolciak will focus on her health and avoid any future health scares.
