In a moving feature, UNICEF highlights a significant problem around the globe; children living in poverty. This unbalanced scale is beyond monetary needs, it also includes access to clean drinking water, nutrition, shelter and education. The agency places cameras into the lives of these children who work for their families, and try to survive another day.
Even in more developed nations like America, poverty is an issue. While millions of people look forward to upgrading their iPhone, more than 16 million of children are living in poverty, struggling with access to decent shelter and education. A more sobering number? 1 billion children around the globe live in impoverished situations.

Due to the amount of poverty, approximately 22,000 children die every day. What can one do? There are a lot of companies stepping up to demonstrate ways to help children from perishing. Below are ways to help to decrease this depression statistic:
- Yahoo and Dosomething.org put together a mobile search link that will help to raise money. Mobile users can download the link, and for every search completed, Yahoo will donate ten cents, and up to a $1 million to Dosomething.org to help children around the world. See more here.
- The National Center for Children in Poverty offers a way for people to donate. Visit their link to read more about where the donations are funneled to.
- UNICEF is the lead agency on helping children in poverty, consider visiting their site to read more on how you can help.
- Visit Charity: Water to find out how you can help or donate to bring clean drinking water to nations, and children who lack access to it.
Much too often the media swamps with stories that bring frustrations or interest - but more times than not, the true tragedy - the 22,000 children dying every day- is not mentioned. Consider donating or assisting an agency to see to help those truly in need; our future.
