Lowell, Massachusetts Police Seeks Driver Following Intentional Hit and Run of Teen

An investigation is underway in Lowell, Massachusetts following a hit and run earlier Friday. Witnesses told police they saw a white Chevy pick-up truck driving down Lawrence Street when the driver suddenly crossed over to the opposite lane striking a 15-year-old riding his bike. The teen was thrown viciously into the air while his bike was dragged away by the speeding truck.

Investigators believe the hit was intentional following information received from their sources. Police Captain Timothy Crowley told reporters, “There’s information that there might have been a conversation between this kid, another kid and the occupants of the truck prior to this.”

Sources near the scene said the teen was allegedly in a heated argument with occupants in the truck. The teen got on his bike and pedaled away from the area, as did the driver of the truck. Another witness shared the truck returned to the area shortly after the verbal altercation, and went after the teen.

Police scoured the area, and eventually located the abandoned truck and the damaged bike a few blocks away. The teen was airlifted to Deaconess Medical Center following the hit. Due to the extent of his injuries he was transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital. Police shared the teen is in serious but stable condition.

Officials believe they know who the driver of the pick-up truck is. They said they believe he is a teen or young adult, and potentially not the owner of the truck.
