An extended trailer for AMC’s hotly-anticipated Better Call Saul has arrived, taking fans of the series’ predecessor back to Albuquerque.
Set in 2002, the prequel/spin-off to the award-winning series Breaking Bad will center upon the actions of lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk). During Better Call Saul, Goodman - who goes by the name James McGill - must desperately attempt to work his way up the professional ladder.
The trailer shows McGill starting to get his hands dirty, as he embarks upon a career representing members of the criminal underworld. We see McGill handling his very first cases, convening with clients, getting arrested and negotiating with a familiar face from Breaking Bad.
Season one of Call Saul will be helmed by Breaking Bad showrunner Vince Gilligan and executive producer Peter Gould. It’s worth noting that Saul Goodman was the brainchild of Gould, explaining his prominent role in AMC’s new series.
For those fans hoping to see reprisals from Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) and Walter White (Bryan Cranston), it may be a long wait. According to Entertainment Weekly, the writers and producers revealed at the TCA’s press tour that neither Pinkman nor White would make appearances in season one of Better Call Saul. However, Gilligan went on to explain that any of the characters from the original Breaking Bad series could feature in the new timeline:
“The short answer is: The sky is the limit and any of these characters could conceivably show up in future seasons. But the intention is it will feel proper and organic, because if it feels like a stunt then something has gone terribly wrong in the writers’ room.”
The first episodes of Better Call Saul will premiere on two separate nights, on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 at 10 p.m. Thereafter, it will move to its regular viewing slot of Monday night at 10 p.m. on AMC.
