Like millions of people before her who blame the media for everything, Janay Rice says that all the bad things that happened to her in the elevator incident are the media’s fault. Members of the media, not her husband Ray Rice, she says, are to blame for her unhappiness. All the pain she has felt, she claims, is the fault solely of the media. She seems to imply that Ray had nothing to do with the tears she is shedding. The fact that he beat her unconscious in an elevator? Pffft! who cares? It is the media that bears the burden of responsibility for Janay’s sadness.
Janay also says that Ray beating the s*** out of her in an elevator and then dragging her limp body across the floor is all part of God’s plan for her. The pesky media is simply interfering with God’s wish to have Ray beat up Janay and then drag her around like a rag doll. Who do members of the media think they are to stand in the way of God’s plan? How dare the media meddle in God’s super idea?
Surely, God is also going to blame the media and say it is all their fault for causing Janay to be upset. Had the media meanies hushed up the domestic abuse, everything would be just swell in the Rice household, it seems. Ray has committed no wrongdoing in punching Janay in the face and then treating her like a piece of furniture, Janay seems to imply. Nope, it is the media’s fault for reporting on the incident.
Janay says she is very angry-but not at her husband Ray. Oh no, in fact, she says she is doing everything in her power to help his career. She also places the blame on herself during an interview with Matt Lauer by saying that both she and Ray were “highly intoxicated” during the elevator incident.
Now that the media has turned its attention to other things, Ray Rice has the pleasure of being sought after by no fewer than four teams after his reinstatement to the NFL. See, domestic abuse is just all part of God’s plan, according to Janay Rice. Everything else-all the pain and heartache, all the tears, all the unhappiness-is all the media’s fault and Ray bears no responsibility. Janay also says that the media has terribly victimized Ray:
No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted options [sic] from the public has caused my family….To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass off for all his life just to gain ratings is…horrific.
Poor, poor Ray Rice. Being so terribly victimized by the wretched people in the media doing their jobs is just so unfair, or as Janay puts it, “horrific.” Landing punches on your wife’s face and knocking her unconscious? Janay says he just did that because he is “human.” Clearly, the villain here is most definitely the media for writing stories about things the public considers to be newsworthy. Next time, instead of the media doing its job, it should collectively just say “Great plan, God! You are so clever, engineering men to beat up women. Cheers!”
