Remember the release of the iPhone 5s and 5c. The big giant breath held then “oh, that’s it?” Especially when it came to the iPhone 5c which was literally nothing more than the better iPhone 5 wrapped in plastic. The colors were pretty horrendous too. So, many Apple fans turned to the iPhone 5s to embrace the tweaks provided including the TouchID, A7 chip with the 64-bit architecture and the enhanced iSight camera. Fans embraced the various colors, including Gold which was sold out for weeks and had people rushing to eBay to drop up to several thousand dollars on the model.
Now, once again here we are. Apple is making an announcement tomorrow, and we all know what to expect. The announcement of the pending iPhone 6. Agents for the big carriers are sharing they are being told to pick up hours, Apple store managers have received dates blacked out to disallow vacation days.
This time around consumers want more, Tim Cook. More than the previous models, more specs, more features and the boost of innovation that made Apple king with Steve Jobs behind it (except that whole big screen thing, Jobs was not about it. Well then. Now? Probably.)
Samsung is touting their Galaxy Note 4 and their Galaxy Note Edge with a wraparound screen. The powerhouse devices are marking their entrance, reportedly, after the iPhone 6.
To succeed with a wow factor here are some specs/features consumers may expect this time around:
- Bigger screen. Even if two versions are expected, consumers want Apple to break a mold beyond minor increments in size.
- NFC technology, especially to work cohesively with iBeacon for making payments and shopping easily at retail stores.
- Optical Image Stabilization and a camera boost to 10 or 13-megapixels
- Sapphire screen
- Responsive logo for alerts
- Enhanced TouchID to permit authentication of mobile payments.
- A8 Processor
- Bigger battery, some are reporting a potential 2915mAh vs. the current 1560mAh battery.
Excitement is winning, but I do have to do warn. Avoid stalking your carrier for information on release dates, specs and pricing. Apple does not release this information to their own employees, let alone carriers. Additionally, pricing on the iPhone cannot be negotiated with carriers - Apple doesn’t compete with carriers.
What would you like to see on the soon to be released iPhone generations?
