Google Reads Your Emails to Determine What to Sell to You

If you’re not already aware of some of the interesting marketing practices in which Google engages, you ought to know that Google is reading your emails, and the company has said it has the full right to do such a thing as per the new update in the “Privacy & terms” page of Google in which it explained why it is necessary and how it can benefit everyone.

Before the recent update, Google had already mentioned that basically, if you use Google to do anything, including email, then you are granting them a license to freely use everything you do to their own advantage. This means, theoretically, that Google has the full right to use your private emails in any way they see fit, including for advertising purposes of their own.

What Google is mostly doing, though, is selling directly to you based on the personal and private information they find inside your emails. They explain that their systems read each and every email to find what they deem as “personally relevant” information to deliver advertising to you. What they really mean is that Google reads your emails to determine what to sell to you.

This means Google is informing the worldwide users that their outgoing and incoming emails are automatically scrutinized by the software, and this helps in creating targeted ads for what to sell. Google is unapologetic about its changes and this has created a certain kind of controversy all around the world. The worldwide users of Google worry that as this company is able to read and scan the emails for various purposes, it can be a major violation of privacy.

This update came recently after Google was targeted in a class action lawsuit which claimed that the company is in violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which protects educational records. Users of Gmail do not have any alternative to turn off Google’s ability to read and scan their email and these users alleged that this is a huge privacy violation.

Some Google users have said that the policies of Google have been little sketchy because Google is trying to defend its policy by trying to say that the users of Google don’t expect any kind of privacy protection.

Matt Kallman, Google spokesman, recently said that the company is working to clarify their policies for the users in an effort to establish greater transparency. Consumer Watchdog Privacy Project director John Simpson recently advised everyone who wants more privacy to choose another email service. Kallman says that Google has just freely admitted that they do not believe in or value privacy, and that those who do need to find a different email provider.

Now it’s at your discretion to decide whether to use Gmail for email services or to opt for another in order to get better privacy, because Google has revealed that it is reading your emails to determine what to sell to you.
