Baltimore Catholic School Teacher Charged With Sexual Abuse of a Student

A Baltimore teacher, who taught science at the Archbishop Curley High School was charged Friday, with sexual abuse of a student. Lynette Trotta, 33, was arrested Friday morning and suspended from her position. Trotta has been a teacher at the high school for the past seven years, and it appears she entered a relationship with a student during the current school year. The identity, as is common, has not been confirmed of the student. The school librarian has also been suspended from her position.

Librarian Annette Goodman learned about the illegal affair several weeks ago, and failed to reported it immediately to her superiors. Per the policies of the school, any faculty member knowing of child abuse, must report allegations immediately to police and the principal. Neither of which was done by Goodman, until earlier this week.

On April 1, the librarian approached the school board with the information. The board immediately contacted the Baltimore Police Department and Child Services in the same day.

Once the teacher’s identity was confirmed, police arrested the teacher for sexual abuse of a minor and sexual solicitation of a minor. The Baltimore Archdiocese placed both faculty members on suspension, pending an investigation.

Families of students will receive notification of the allegations, after receiving permission from the Baltimore Police Department to pass the information over to the community. Additionally, teachers and counselors are available today for students who may have concerns regarding any teacher/student behaviors witnessed or experienced.

All recent graduates from the previous school year will also receive notices on the investigation. The Archdiocese and the high school want current or past students to willingly submit any information, that may have compromised their education and safety.

The Archbishop Curley High School encourages reports of any allegations or suspicions. Trotta is currently being held on a bond of $250,000 pending a court date.
