Twitter, Teens and @LIPartyStorys: What Parents Need to Know Now

Parent of a teen? How about a parent of a teen who is always on Twitter and out with their friends? Caution flags are rising as a new handle is emerging on Twitter that depicts teens in precarious positions. The New York Daily News received a direct e-mail from the unknown owner of the handle @LIPartyStories (former handle), advising the page was just something for “kids” to look for and “have a good laugh.” Once you get an idea of pictures being received by this handle owner, parents may not find it to be such a “good laugh.”

Teens are submitting pictures to the owner of drunken fests, including unconscious girls with a sign before them, advertising for sex. If parents are looking to scour the pages of Twitter for this demoralizing handle, it has changed a couple of times. Previous to the @LIPartyStorys handle, the page was under the moniker @LIPartyStories, but the account was suspended. The handle owner then asked teens to submit pictures to #LIPartyStorys for posting. Parents may also review the previous reviewed hashtag of #LIPartyStories.

@LIPartyStorys has amassed over 1,300 followers and it is expected to grow. Some of the pictures depicted also show teen girls shedding their clothes to post nude. Some images were captured prior to the suspension of the former account. They will demand any parent to take action and understand what they need to know to monitor their teens browsing habits, and more important what are they doing outside of the home. (Many images were not shown, due to nudity and exposure of minor teens).

These demoralizing images are not blurred on Twitter. The aspect of teen drinking is a dangerous one, which raises the chances of car accidents, alcohol poisoning and more frighteningly, possible rape and sexual harassment. The New York Daily News originally reported on the @LIPartyStories, but since then, a new handle has emerged, since the old was suspended by Twitter. Considering the reach of social media, many of these teens may be unaware how damaging these images can be.

Parents need to know what is happening with their teens. If they have a smartphone, hang out with friends and are consumed with texting/Twitter, strict parameters must be set in place. Many of the photos were shocking when originally seen several days ago - now @LIPartyStorys is requesting more submissions. It is with the high hopes, parents will become involved and place an end to this trend, by reporting it and becoming a mouthpiece against this degradation of teenagers.
