The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) released a telling report regarding the decline of learning access for millions of children across the globe. Between poverty, war and the need to survive, the access of education is showing a decline that needs to be resolved. The report released by the agency shows between 2000 and 2007, steps to increase educational initiatives were very strong, resulting in one of the greatest steps toward closing the gap of children in the world versus those left outside of educational doors. Yet, in recent years those numbers are sliding backwards.
More than 120 million children are estimated to be outside the realms of education and learning tools to broaden their future.
What is more important here is the quality of teaching. Showing up means nothing in many third world and developing countries, as more than 130 million children listed between first and fourth grade cannot read, let alone write. UNICEF wants to drive home funding sources, and also accountability factors when it comes to governments and educational facilities and how they spend the money. The agency is pushing for a greater presence of equal education, and the ability for all children to have the basic access of learning tools and resources.
Much too often, UNICEF reports, countries will place a massive amount of funds towards health initiatives, and while that is absolutely mandatory - there is a lesser focus on education. In the realm of what should be, education has become known as an “elite” gift, rather than a normal progression of life.
By pushing an education and learning initiative, countries can gain the upper hand when it comes to stabilizing financially, the agency said. But, to get there learning tools need to be more than rudimentary, teachers need to be properly groomed, and interpretation methods must be refined. Read the entire report below:
UNICEF releases educational initiative and ideas of funding
Investing into education can provide an immense rate of return, due to the engagement of economic growth and grooming future business owners, doctors and other fields of interest. This can increase productivity, and a boost to GDP by just focusing one additional year of strong education in children.
Education is not a luxury is it? Should it not be the leading initiative not only in America, but in every country to provide the greatest base of future leaders?
